Marijuana Legalization

OGA Joins Opposition against State Issue 3

(August 27, 2015) Earlier this week, OGA released a statement of opposition to the pending State Issue 3, which would legalize recreational and medical marijuana across Ohio. In addition, we also joined the coalition, Ohioans Against Marijuana Monopolies, or the No On Issue 3 campaign, which brings together industries from all across Ohio in opposition. We have deep concerns with employment law and workplace safety aspects as well as the language to create the retail sale of marijuana at over 1,100 outlets. The issue will be on the ballot this fall for voters to decide. Please see OGA’s statement of opposition: No on Issue 3.

Marijuana Legalization Ballot Issue to be on November Ballot

(August 13, 2015) The highly contentious ballot campaign to legalize marijuana for recreational and medial use in Ohio officially cleared the Secretary of State’s office and is set to go before voters this November. Having fallen short on the initial signature collection efforts, the pro-marijuana campaign was able to submit the necessary additional signatures in time. The group, ResponsibleOhio collected an additional 44,185 signatures, bringing their total effort to 320,267 valid signatures, more than the 305,591 needed for the November ballot.

Ohio’s Ballot Board will now officially approve the specific ballot language. The proposal would legalize marijuana for adults over age 21, establish regulations and list 10 growing sites for production. The issue will be on the November 3, 2015 ballot for voters.
