Taylor Hahnert Crowned Ohio’s Best Bagger
(August 17, 2011 - Columbus, OH)--- 17 year old Taylor Hahnert of Delaware, OH, claimed Ohio’s Best Bagger title at the 2011 Ohio Best Bagger Contest today. Grocery baggers from nine (9) Ohio companies participated in the contest held at Giant Eagle’s Bethel/Sawmill location in Northwest Columbus.
Taylor was one of four baggers representing The Kroger Company. He is a bagger at the Kroger store at 1840 Columbus Pike in Delaware, OH. He beat 32 other baggers to win the title, which comes with $1,000 cash and a trip to Las Vegas to compete in the National Best Bagger Contest next February.
“The best bagger contest is an exciting event that allows Ohio’s retail grocers to showcase their talented employees,” said Tom Jackson, President and CEO of the Ohio Grocers Association. “We’ve done this contest for 25 years and it’s impressive every time. We see great baggers in action, and some of them come back year after year.”
Contestants filled three (3) reusable bags and were judged on speed, weight distribution between the bags, and technique. The top five (5) qualifiers advanced to a final round to determine the winner. In both the qualifying and final rounds, a maximum of 28 points was possible. In both rounds, Hahnert scored more than 25. “He was fast and amazingly consistent,” Jackson said. “It’s hard to fill three (3) bags of groceries and have their weights come out the same.”
In addition to Hahnert, top scores went to Chris Glockner from Buehler’s in Wadsworth; Paula Evans from Giant Eagle in Rossford; Blair Stewart from Giant Eagle in Columbus; and Andrew Angerer from Dorothy Lane Market in Dayton. Each of the top five (5) won cash prizes.
