IGA Donates $120,000 to Wounded Warrior Project
Kishman’s IGA of Minerva Contributed to the Cause

(Nov. 22, 2011) IGA announced a donation of $120,000 was made to Wounded Warrior Project™ (WWP) as a result of a national cause marketing initiative that ran in participating IGA stores from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day weekend. IGA donated 10¢ from the sale of every specially marked case of IGA exclusive brand water during the promotional period to Wounded Warrior Project, resulting in $100,000 of the donation. Kraft Foods contributed in IGA’s name an additional $20,000 earned from IGA retailers by adding classic powdered beverages like Kool-Aid, Crystal Light, Country Time Lemonade and Tang to their WWP water displays. Tom and Jan Kishman, owners of Kishman’s IGA in Minerva, Ohio, were one of three IGA retailer couples invited to attend the donation presentation at WWP headquarters in Jacksonville, Fla., on Tuesday, Nov. 15.

Tom and Jan Kishman were chosen to attend the presentation because of their creative marketing during the IGA WWP program.  The Kishmans worked with their IGA employees to build a WWP-themed float for the annual homecoming parade, and then invited a wounded veteran who is also a WWP spokesperson to ride on the float, handing out WWP information & IGA water to the crowd, and sold a total of 6 semi-truckloads of IGA Drinking Water.

“We at Kishman’s IGA  are very pleased to be able to use this IGA Brand water promotion to raise much-needed funding to help wounded service members with everything from physical health and wellness, counseling, family aid, and job assistance,” Tom Kishman said. “It was a great honor to be there for the presentation and see firsthand the work being done at WWP. We can’t wait to start planning our WWP promotion for next summer.”

According to WWP, nearly 46,000 of our nation’s service men and women have been physically wounded during the current military conflicts, with hundreds of thousands more estimated to be recovering from post-traumatic stress disorder, major depression and brain injuries. WWP assists Wounded Warriors and their families through a holistic approach to their recovery, providing programs and services to aid their physical rehabilitation and improving their mental health and well-being.
